Picture description
The figures are painted in pastel (nouvelle) and the background is painted with acrylic paint. The baby's skin color is redder than the mother's. The hemp leaf pattern drawn in the background is a traditional Japanese pattern. Shigeru Tanaka finds beauty in these geometric patterns, which is why he often draws these patterns in the background of his paintings. Hemp leaves have another meaning, they repel insects and prevent children from getting sick. It seems that it was often used on children's clothing to prevent bad bugs from attracting it.
The backing is made from the smooth back of Canson paper and the pattern squares are drawn with the color of the paper intact.
